New Year Urban Packrafting - Zurich, Switzerland

Winter is normally not the best time for packrafting - the rivers are low on water and it’s quite cold compared to nice summertime trips. But winter can also be special - hence we decided recently to do a quick late-afternoon packrafting session on the Lake Züri. A similar trip we did years ago, check it out here.

We started at the Tiefenbrunnen lake side and headed down to the Bürkliplatz. There, we called the Zurich Water Police and requested access to the Limmat. You should definitively do this - read here why - and a few minutes later we got checked by a police boat. They complained that we didn’t have any lights on our boats, which is in fact correct and which we should fix for the next time. Besides that, everything was fine and we were able to continue down the Limmat. So make sure you register before you enter.

We exited close to the central trainstation and ended our trip with a hot tea in a nearby cafe. A great 2-hour trip for lazy winter afternoons.
