Cycling and Hiking around Castle Neuschwanstein

Castle Neuschwanstein is listed as a must do on a lot of foreign tourist bucket lists. During the 2nd Corona summer in 2021, we paid the region around the castle a visit but focused more on hiking and cycling instead of the bohemian interiors of the castle.

To make it short: The Allgaeu region is awesome for hiking and cycling due to the endless possibilities it offers. Even in high summer & vacation season, trails haven’t been completely crowded. To get some impression, check out this website of the tourist office. For cycling: I added 2 recommendations we did below. For hiking: if you like castles and great views on them, get lost on the trails around the Neuschwanstein castle.

Cycling

We did multiple relaxed cycling trips but the following 2 are my recommendations:

Forggensee Circuit – easy trail around the Forggensee which offers great views and multiple possibilities to take a bath.
Castle Circuit – trail enters into Austria for some while – also strongly recommended due to its amazing countryside
