Traversing the Tannheim Mountains

The Tannheim Mountains (Austria) have been on my list for quite a while now. In July 2020, we spent a weekend there. Conclusion: Bad weather on the first day was lowering the view but not the mood, the ski resort in the middle of the mountains does not add a lot of bonus points to the hiking experience but all in all it’s worth a visit.

We slept in the car from Friday to Saturday and woke up with huge amounts of water hammering on the car windows. It was not the best day for hiking but we nevertheless started to climb up the easy road to the Füssener hut.

The 2nd night we slept in the hut and continued on Sunday towards the Bad Kissinger hut just to realize that our extended trip we planned is blocked due to landslides: We wanted to cross the Aggenstein peak and do a circle back to the car.

Since this was not possible we called it a day and climbed down. So all in all relaxed 2 x 12 km approx. with partially awesome views. The ski resort somehow does not fit into this nice, natural landscape. With good weather, you can easily extend this trip and put in some nice, challenging sections.
