Hiking the Wutach Gorge

The “Wutachschlucht” (Wutach Gorge) is quite well known in the south-western part of Germany for being a beautiful gorge to hike through. This spring, we reserved a full day to combine two hikes we got from the official Wutach-Website (DE only). You can find the GPX files for both hikes directly under the links below.

  • Classic Trip through the Gorge: this one is categorized as being the “classic” and we started at the Schattenmühle and headed 12 km towards the east where we connected this trip with a circuit hike …
  • 3-Gorges Hike: we started this one directly at the end of the classic trip and followed the circle hike until the end, Drei Schluchten Halle but did a lunch break at this wonderful restaurant Burgmühle. Awareness: In spring 2026 you could only pay cash there due to weak cellphone connection.

It is easy recongnizable that the Wutach Gorge is heavily visited during summer weekends, hence I recommend to visit during the week if possible. There are also quite a lot of warning signals and rescue information which can be seen on German hiking trails specifically when the trail is popular and attracts visitors with all different hiking skills.
