Doing an extensive 1-day hike close to the Pragser Wildsee (Austria) was beautiful – so although the lake itself is flooded by tourists on all days of the week, the paths get quickly silent as soon as you leave the main tourist routes. Let me show you how we did it in summer 2019.
The upper Salzach river in Austria is an easy one for packrafting – in August 2019 I went there with a friend who is new to packrafting, so this was an excellent exercise to get a little bit familiar with navigating a river in a packraft.
In August 2019, we spent 3 days in the Austrian National Park “Hohe Tauern” and did, besides Packrafting the Salzach, also a short 2-day hike from the town of Krimml, up to the Warnsdorfer Hütte (day 1). On day 2 we had a long hike from Warnsdorfer Hütte via Richter Hütte down to the Tauernhaus.
The Grossglockner mountain (Austria) was hiding in fog on this day – this didn’t prevent us from hiking in this region while we crossed the Grossglockner High Alpine Road by car.
When we first packrafted the Lech River in 2013, it was clear that we will come back one day – in May 2018 we did.
Back in 2013, we went down the Lech River with our packrafts after having crossed the mountains from St. Anton to Stockach in the Lech valley.
